Riding on a spectacular spell from Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 60 runs in the fifth and final T20I, clinching the series 4-1. It was indeed a dominating show from the Bangla Tigers as the Aussies were outplayed at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Chasing a mediocre-looking total of 123 runs, the Men in Yellow never got going and lost wickets at regular intervals.
Veteran left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan was the wrecker-in-chief for Bangladesh as he ran through Australia’s batting order with a sensational spell. He registered a four-wicket haul as the visitors were bundled out for their lowest ever T20I score, 62 runs. Besides skipper Matthew Wade (22) and Ben McDermott (17), no batter could reach double figures as Australia arguably suffered their most humiliating defeat in this format.
Batters let Australia down once again
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. With the home team already having an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, this match was a mere dead rubber. The hosts got off to a stellar start with openers Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Naim attacking bowlers from the outset. However, Nathan Ellis and Daniel Christian’s sensational spells in the middle overs brought the Aussies back in the hunt.
The duo took a couple of wickets apiece as Bangladesh were restricted to 122/8 in their allotted 20 overs. While many expected Aussies to save their pride by clinching this clash, Bangladesh bowlers had different plans. Besides Shakib’s four-wicket haul, Mohammad Saifuddin and Nasum Ahmed scalped three and two wickets respectively.
As a result, Mahmudullah’s men registered yet another victory and ended the series on a high. Notably, Shakib was named the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the series. Cricket fans all over the world were left stunned by Bangladesh’s stellar show with Australia being one of the giants of world cricket. Hence, Twitter got flooded with praises for the home team. At the same, Australia were bashed for their reckless show. Although they had a depleted squad for this series, not many expected them to go down by 4-1.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Bangladesh’s stellar victory over Australia
