Shakib Al Hasan underlined his value to the Bangladesh side and produced a masterclass with the willow to help his side beat Zimbabwe in the 2nd ODI of the three-match ODI series between the two sides. The batting veteran scored a composed 96* off 109 deliveries to guide his team to a 3-wicket victory over the opposition.

The Bangladesh side kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and when the Tigers were reduced to 173/7, it looked as if Zimbabwe might pull off an upset. But then, a sensational 69-run unbeaten partnership between Shakib and Mohammad Saifuddin ensured that the Bangladesh side went past the target without any hiccups.

Luke Jongwe was the pick of the bowlers for the Zimbabwe side. The right-arm pacer scalped 2 wickets in the 8 overs that he bowled, and gave away 46 runs.

Earlier in the day, skipper Brendan Taylor and right-hander Wesley Madhevere played crucial knocks to help the Zimbabwe side post a total of 240/9 on the board. While Taylor scored a 57-ball 46, Madhevere scored 56 off 63 deliveries.

Apart from Taylor and Madhevere, Sikandar Raza too played a crucial knock for the Zimbabwe outfit. Raza scored 30 off 44 deliveries and kept the fight going with the willow for his side. Shoriful Islam produced an excellent performance for the Bangladesh outfit with the ball.

In the 10 overs that he bowled, Islam picked up 4 wickets and constantly put the brakes on the Zimbabwe innings. Apart from Islam, Shakib Al Hasan also scalped a couple of wickets as well, giving away 42 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan won the Player of the Match award for his excellent performance with both bat and ball. With this victory, the Bangladesh side has now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The third and final ODI of the series will be played on 20th July 2021 at Harare.
