Shane Watson was firing all cylinders against India during the third T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Watson, the stand-in skipper, opened the innings with debutant Usman Khawaja. Watto made his intentions clear right from the start of the innings as the burly right-hander smashed Nehra for a six in the second over of the first innings.
The skipper looked unstoppable. His muscle power was on display when he was dispatching full tosses for big sixes straight down the ground. He exploited the Indian spinners particularly who were finding it really difficult to bowl at the right place to him.
Watson brought up his fifty in the 11th over after he hit Pandya for a boundary. Shortly, luck favoured him as Virat Kohli dropped him at 56. He again survived when Dhoni missed a run out Watson was struggling to reach in time for a second. Pandya’ quick throw from the deep had nearly got him short of the crease had the ball hit the stumps.
However, Watson shifted gears soon and sixes and boundaries began raining. He brought up his maiden T20I in style after he swept Jadeja for a boundary in the 17 over. This was also the 1st T20I century in Australia and also, the first century scored against India in the shortest format of the game. His innings injected life into the dead rubber game.
Watson remained unbeaten at 124 off 71 deliveries and ended up at the second-highest score in T20 internationals. Shane Watson is having a wonderful series and has certainly put himself as a strong case for the selection in the Australian teams for the upcoming World T20.
