Twitter Reactions: Shubman Gill called up for New Zealand tour

Indian cricket has recently been hit by a minor controversy as Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been sent home from Australia following their controversial remarks in the television show Koffee With Karan, aired on last Sunday. However, the ruckus opened up the gates for teen sensation Shubman Gill, who is slated to join the squad in New Zealand for the ODI and T20I series.

The 19-year-old has been in red-hot form in the last one year. After making his first-class debut in November 2017, he was included in the Indian squad for the U19 World Cup in New Zealand under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw, who has already made his debut for the national team against the Windies. The Fazilka-born was outstanding in the tournament and was unstoppable.

The Fazilka-born became the second-highest run-scorer in the 50-overs event, having scored 372 runs in six matches at an incredible average of 372. His top score of 102 not out came against Pakistan in the semi-final. Thereafter, the Young Turk was picked to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) where he didn’t flatter to deceive by any means.

Moreover, Gill broke into the India ‘A’ team. In the erstwhile edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shubman churned out 418 runs at an average of 59.71. Furthermore, he has simply been outstanding in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, representing Punjab, where he has notched a mammoth 728 runs in five matches at a gigantic average of 104 and a jaw-dropping strike-rate of 78.61.

He has scored a couple of centuries and four half-centuries. His highest score of 268 came against Tamil Nadu at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. His other century came against Hyderabad in the very next match of the tournament. In the meantime, the users on Twitter couldn’t stop heaping praises on the youngster. Some of them from the cricketing fraternity also lauded the young man.
