The South Africa Women continued their impressive run in the World Cup with a three-wicket victory over the England side at the Bay Oval. This is South Africa’s third win in as many matches, and the Proteas have now moved to the second spot in the points table.

Chasing a target of 236, the Proteas lost Lizelee Lee with just 18 runs on the board. However, the experienced Laura Wolvdaart and Tazmin Brits put on a sedate 56-run partnership for the second wicket. After the departure of Brits for 23, skipper Sune Luus came in and contributed a crucial 49-ball 36 for her side.

England came back into the match by scalping the wickets of Luus, Wolvdaart, and Mignon du Preez in quick succession, but Marizanne Kapp chipped in with a vital 32 to help South Africa past the finish line with four deliveries to spare. Anya Shrubsole scalped two wickets with the ball for England, while the likes of Kate Cross, Sophie Ecclestone, Natalie Sciver, and Charlotte Dean picked up one wicket each.

Batting first, England were reduced to 42/3, as Marizanne Kapp scalped the two big wickets of Danielle Wyatt and skipper Heather Knight for single-digit scores. Nat Sciver was then snaffled by Masabata Klaas and England were in some trouble.

And, that was when Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones came together and stitched a partnership of 107 runs for the 4th wicket. While Beaumont scored a sedate 62 off 97 deliveries, Jones helped herself to a 74-ball 53.

Sophia Dunkley also chipped in with a handy 26 as well. For South Africa, Marizanne Kapp scalped a superb five-wicket haul to peg back the opposition. Apart from Kapp, Masabata Klaas also picked up a couple of wickets with the ball in hand as well to rattle the England side.
