If 2017 was poor for Sri Lanka, they didn’t have a sweet beginning to 2018 as well. They started this year losing to Zimbabwe in the first game. Today, the crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka witnessed the hosts register a spectacular victory over the Lankans.
Batting first, Bangladesh were off to a stupendous start. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque produced a 71-run partnership. While Anamul got out, Tamim stitched a 99-run stand with star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. While Tamim scored an elegant 84, Shakib also composed a fantastic fifty.
After both the batters got out, it was wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim’s turn to display his splendid touch with the bat. The former skipper also contributed a half century to the team’s cause as Bangladesh were cruising all the way through. While they lost wickets in the end, Sabbir Rahman’s cameo of 24 (12) propelled the total to 320/7.
Thisara Perera was the pick amongst the Sri Lankan bowlers. While he leaked a lot of runs, he managed to get three wickets. Nuwan Pradeep also managed to get a couple of wickets. Asela Gunaratne got the lone but important wicket of Shakib. Akila Dananjaya was the only economical bowler out of the lot.
A target of 321 was always going to be out of reach on this pitch. Especially with the kind of batting Sri Lanka possess, having failed to chase the Zimbabwean total in the previous game, a loss was always there in the reckoning. The visitors failed to show any intent to grab a win as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
While it was quite a close game against Zimbabwe, here their batting order fell apart. The Lankan batsmen failed to keep their mojo going on being challenged. The Bangladeshi bowlers toppled the opposition and bundled them out for 157, failing to score even half the total.
Bangladesh thus secured a massive 163 runs victory. None of the Sri Lankan batsmen managed to cross the 30 runs mark. Twitter was full of praise for the likes of Tamim and Shakib. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan team was criticised for their consistently poor performances.
Here we present to you some of the Twitter reactions from the game:

Thought to lose to India all through 2017 was the lowest point in Sri Lanka's cricket, but having to watch them fail in the tri-series as well, fills me with utter disappointment. I am gutted to see them fall. #BANvSL

This is exactly what i was afraid of when Kusal Mendis was dropped back to low quality Domestic cricket.
Came back as a worse fielder and a batsman who lacks confidence.
Well Done Labroy and co:
You guys can take all the credit for ruining this one.#LKA #SriLanka #BANvSL
