It has been a dramatic turnaround for the Rohit Sharma-led team India in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy 2018. They had arrived in to the competition as the pre-tournament favorites. However, a defeat in the series opener sent shock waves in the camp. Many believed that the inexperience of the side could backfire for the Indian team.
But ever since that blip in the series opener, the Indian team has looked like a formidable outfit. With the recent win over Bangladesh, the team completed their three wins in a row in the tournament. Coming to the game, team India had the liberty of testing their bench strength knowing they were in the finals more or less irrespective of the outcome of this game.
Rohit Sharma gave a look in to Mohammed Siraj as a beneficiary of this plan. After having lost the toss, Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for India. The two batsman added 70 runs for the first wicket before Dhawan was cleaned up by Rubel Hossain on 35. Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma then marched on to take the Indian total in excess of 170.
While Raina missed out on his fifty and perished after a 30-ball 47, Rohit went on to score a timely 89. His efforts saw team India finish with 176/3 on the board. In the run chase, Washington Sundar dented the Bangladeshi lineup with two quick strikes. Tamim Iqbal (27) showed brief resistance before heading back to the pavilion.
Wickets kept tumbling from one end while Mushfiqur Rahim held the fort from the other. In the end, the ask was a little too much to overhaul for the Bangladeshi side. A brief session of play saw India getting a serious scare but that was not enough either. Despite Rahim’s fighting unbeaten 72, they fell short by 17 runs.
Here is how the fans reacted to India’s win:
Fairly comfortable in the end for India. Well played. @ImRo45 and @ImRaina getting runs ahead of the final will mean Ind start favourites.

Brilliant 19th over from @imShard as he ensures @BCBtigers have a stiff target in the last over. Needs 28 runs from 6 balls. #NidahasTrophy #INDvBAN

Get Rahim's wicket and whisper 'shaanp bhi mar gaya aur laathi bhi nahi tooti' in his ears.

Very impressive from Washington Sundar. Looks a quick learner apart from being clever. Well done India on reaching the finals. Hitman back in form is great news as well. #INDvsBAN
