The BPL game between the Khulna Titans and the Sylhet Sixers was quite a dramatic one. The balance of kept shifting from one side to the other right till the end. Mohammad Nawaz took the Sixers as close as possible to the target after a dreadful start. However, his efforts fell short as his team lost the game by 21 runs.

The Sylhet Sixers have now bagged their sixth loss in eight games and the qualifying scenario seems extremely tough for them. The case with the Khulna Titans is pretty much similar as they registered only their second win in nine games. Both these teams should win every game from here on and a lot will depend upon the results of the other games as well.

Three batsmen do a bulk of the scoring for the Titans

Sylhet Sixers’ new skipper Sohail Tanvir won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Khulna Titans got a good opening stand of 73 runs from Brendan Taylor and Junaid Siddique. This duo scored at over 10 runs per over. But, the problems began once Siddique was dismissed after he scored 33 off 23 balls.

Only two batsmen among the rest reached double-digits. Taylor slowed down with wickets falling at the other end and eventually perished for 48 runs. A 25-ball 38 from David Wiese and a handy 17-run knock from Hossain Shanto ensured that the team finished on a high with 170 runs on the board. Alok Kapali picked up four wickets in the innings.

The Sylhet Sixers looked weak in the absence of David Warner

In the chase, Subashis Roy dismissed Liton Das for a first ball duck. Soon, his opening partner Sabbir Rahman also got out after he crawled his way to 13 off 12 balls. With two more wickets falling in quick succession, the side was reduced to 56/4 within no time. The required run rate was already sky high at this stage.

Mohammad Nawaz and Nicholas Pooran looked slightly threatening in between. But, Pooran couldn’t really accelerate the way he’d have wanted to and got out after piling up 28 runs off 21 balls. Yet, Nawaz kept persisting and tried hard to yield the big shots. But, once he got out in the 19th over after scoring 54 runs off 34 balls, it was game over for the Sixers. Khulna Titans registered a 21-run win in the game.

Twitterati enjoyed the opening stand from the Titans’ openers. Also, there was applause for Alok Kapali for his four-wicket haul. But it was the combined effort from the bowlers which stole all the limelight. Except for Mahmudullah, every bowler was amongst the wickets. Taijul Islam was the pick of the lot with three scalps. The fans clearly missed David Warner in the lineup.
