Abhinav Mukund’s dream comeback into the Indian Test team looks to be going miserably wrong for the left-handed batsman. The Tamil Nadu batsman was called in to replace an injured Murali Vijay and open the innings with Lokesh Rahul who looks to be the only Indian batsman in form. But regrettably, the 27-year old’s performance has been defined by low scores in the both the innings of the Test match which also includes a shameful duck.
After six years of struggle as Mukund made his way into the national Test squad he was expected to deliver by the Indian cricket fans. But the cricketer failed to impress once again as he was caught leg before by a fiery Mitchell Starc who looked at his very best. Mukund faced eight deliveries before going back to the pavilion but was unable to open his account which left the fans trolling him mercilessly.
Following the bad start all the Indian batsmen collapsed like a pack of cards except KL Rahul who somehow made an effort to take the scoreboard to a respected position scoring crucial 90 odd runs. India were dismissed for a mere 189 in the first innings.
The second innings turned out be of a similar fate for the returning Mukund as he again got out for a low score. This time he fell victim to Australian Josh Hazlewood who is known for his accuracy in bowling similar to the legendary Glenn McGrath. However, Mukund managed to score just 16 runs in his second chance in the second Test which included a four and even a six before getting his stumps knocked down.

The future doesn’t look good for the batsman who has represented both Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL as his failure to provide stability at the top of the innings will be monitored strictly by the selectors. It would be difficult to say whether the middle-aged batsman will get another chance to prove himself or not but things definitely does not look bright for Abhinav Mukund.
I think Ajinkya Rahane would have been a opener than Abhinav Mukund. Waste of opportunity and Waste of talent above all

When you get a comeback opportunity, make a Gautam Gambhir…not an Abhinav Mukund.
