Virat Kohli came out to bat at the fall of Shikhar Dhawan‘s wicket with only six runs away from reaching the milestone of 6000 Test runs. He got off the mark with a superb cover drive off Stuart Broad who had his tail up. It was a shot of authority from him and now he was only a couple of runs away from becoming the second quickest to the amazing feat. However, it goes without saying that he managed to reach there safely and the crowd also applauded him for his achievement.
The Indian captain has been the thorn in the flesh for the hosts right through the ongoing Test series. He hasn’t given his wicket to his 2014 nemesis James Anderson. But Kohli almost did it in Southampton as he was lured into the drive by the champion bowler as the ball took the edge and went through the gully region. It was a streaky shot and it took him past 6000 runs in the longest format in his 117th innings in the middle.
Will Kohli notch up another ton?
Whenever Virat Kohli strides out, there is a hope that he will score a big knock. He has already gone past the 450-run mark in this series and is going strong currently as well. India have lost their openers and they once again need their best player to take them past England‘s first innings score. Cheteshwar Pujara is looking solid at the other end as well and the onus is on this duo now to resurrect the team’s position.
As far as Kohli’s Test career is concerned, he averages close to 55 after representing his country in 70 matches. He has smashed 23 centuries, out of which six are double-hundreds and 18 half-centuries which prove that it is very tough to get him out once he is settled.
Twitterati was delighted after he reached the milestone and hailed for his consistency. Currently, he is batting on 18 as they also hoped for him to score yet another ton.

#INDvENG Can you believe this? #Virat @imVkohli has taken more innings (119) than #SunilGavaskar (117) to score 6000 Test runs. Kohli, the all-conquering aggressor, had struggled in the past & the dour Mumbaikar who battled the fiercest attacks without helmet did hit it straight
