Day 3 of the Australia v Pakistan 2nd Test started well for Pakistan as their opener Azhar Ali converted his century into a big knock and before all his batting partners walked back to the pavilion got to the double hundred mark; the third of his 56-Test career.  Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood then got rid of the lower order to clear out the Pakistanis for 443 in the first innings which looked like a very competitive total. Australia started their response and after the initial burst, Misbah-ul-Haq had Wahab Riaz in the action.

The opening bowlers failed to take wickets and then their most reliable bowler Yasir Shah was brought in and he bowled Matt Renshaw to bring them the first breakthrough. David Waner at the other end was batting pretty well and in his usual hammering mood. He came hard at all the Pakistan bowlers and was racing on the scoreboard.

For Pakistan, they had a lot of hopes on Wahab who rather started a no ball spree. The pacer who runs in hard and bowls at stupendous pace, he has the ability to clock into the 150 kmph range often and hurries at the batsmen with the short stuff being another lethal weapon. But today his attempt at bowling quick yielded him a string of no balls.

Matters got worse when he had Warner clean bowled as a 150kmph delivery hit the timber but it turned out that he had overstepped and the batsman got a life. It was a full delivery, made its way from between Warner’s bat and pad to crash into the stumps but he couldn’t get the joy of the wicket. The Australian opener played a splendid 144-run knock and had a crucial partnership with Usman Khawaja who was batting unbeaten on 95 at the end of day 3.

The duo has placed Australia in a position where they can look to overhaul the first innings target soon and manage a lead early on day 4. As far as Wahab is concerned he did eventually get Warner but the damage was done. The left-arm pacer in his 14-over spell on the third day bowled a total of 10 no balls and one wide. Something was certainly not right and he would want to go back and ensure the next day is a better one for him or at least he maps his run-up better.
