The final of the World T20 2016 took place between two of the best teams of the tournament, England and West Indies at the Eden Gardens. Darren Sammy won his 10th consecutive toss as he elected to field first. No changes were made in either of the teams.
Batting first, England lost the in-form Jason Roy in the first over. They were soon reduced to 23/3. Joe Root 54 (36) and Buttler 36 (22) then took on the WI bowlers and rescued England. However, England started losing a flurry of wickets.
They ended up at 155/9 in their quota of 20 overs, thanks to some late charge by David Willey. Brathwaite and Bravo took 3 wickets apiece while Badree was exceptional in the powerplay taking 2 wickets and a splendid catch.
On the other hand, West Indies lost both their openers Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles in the second over to Joe Root who seemed to be doing all the job for England. However, Marlon Samuels along with Dwayne Bravo recovered West Indies from the blushes of defeat.
David Willey’s twin strikes in the form of Russell and Sammy brought England back to the game. However, Marlon Samuels with a fantastic knock of 85 runs off just 66 balls as he led the fightback for the Windies. In the end, West Indies required 19 from the last over with Stokes bowling. What followed was a miracle. Brathwaite smashed him for 4 consecutive sixes and sealed the WT20 trophy for West Indies in a thriller.
West Indies became the WT20 champions for 2016 and in the process also became the first team to win it twice. Twitter kept everyone entertained in the night of the finals with some splendid tweets.
To think, Afghanistan was the only team that defeated Windies team in this tournament.

Joe Root is an amazing player. If he keeps making runs at this rate, one day he might be as good as Virat.
