The last league match of the Road Safety Word Series was as exciting as it could be. With a spot in the semifinals on the line, both teams gave their best in this game. The West Indies Legends won a last ball thriller to become the final team to enter the semifinals. After a strong performance in their initial games, England lost their last three matches to lose out on a semifinals spot.
West Indies Legends won a very important toss and decided to bowl first. The England openers got their team off to a brilliant start as their scoreboard read 56-0 at the end of the powerplay. After nine overs they had managed 81 runs without losing any wicket. For the 10th over Dwayne Smith was brought into the attack and his golden arm did wonders for the Caribbean side. He dismissed both the openers in consecutive overs to dent the English side.
While Kevin Pietersen was dismissed on 38 runs, Phil Mustard top scored with a fluent 57 run knock. Owais Shah played the perfect finishing knock as he scored an unbeaten 53 off just 30 balls. His inning included five boundaries and three sixes.
Dwayne Smith’s all round brilliance takes West Indies Legends to the semifinals
A good overall batting display meant that the England side scored 186 runs in their 20 overs. It was definitely a good total and considering that this match was a virtual knockout, the pressure on the chasing side would be even more. Smith was the star bowler as he got two wickets conceding only 31 runs in his four overs.
He started off brilliantly with the bat as well. His knock of 58 runs in just 31 balls meant that West Indies had the platform set. The number three batsman Narsingh Deonarine took over from there and played a calm and composed knock and made sure he was there till the end. He scored an unbeaten 53 to guide his side to a safe victory.
However, the match was not short of drama. With one run needed in the last two balls Brian Lara lost his wicket in trying to playing an aggressive shot. However, Tino Best was very calm and managed to take an easy single on the last ball of the inning. With this five wicket win the Caribbean side finished on the fourth spot in the points table and will now play India in the first semifinal. Here is how Twitter reacted on their victory-
