Road Safety World Series Points Table after England Legends v West Indies Legends

The resumed edition of the Road Safety World Series has been ongoing in Raipur, and after the conclusion of the league stage, the tournament has found the semi-finalists in Sri Lanka, India, South Africa, and West Indies. While the tournament had kicked off with plenty of excitement last year, it was brought to an unfortunate halt due to the arrival of the COVID pandemic.

Paused at match number four, the series resumed this year with two new teams – England and Bangladesh Legends – coming inside to replace the missing Australia Legends. Being held for a noble cause of raising road safety awareness, the tournament has been a rare opportunity for the fanatics to rewind the clocks and drench themselves in nostalgia by witnessing legends of yesteryears back into action.

A look at the journey of the teams thus far:

Sri Lanka Legends

Sri Lanka Legends started the tournament on a winning note last year as they defeated Australia by 7 runs. While they lost their second league clash against India Legends by 5 wickets, they defeated West Indies by the same margin, followed by a 9-wicket victory over South Africa, and a 42-run victory over Bangladesh Legends before steamrolling England Legends by 6 wickets in their last league game of the season. They will meet South Africa Legends in the second semi-final of the tournament.

India Legends

The Indian Legends finished at the second spot on the points table and will be facing West Indies Legends in the first semi-final of the tournament. After handing defeats to West Indies Legends (by 7 wickets) and Sri Lanka Legends (by 5 wickets) last year, India Legends started their journey by thrashing Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the first encounter of the resumed edition. They suffered a 6-run defeat against England in a high-scoring thriller but finished the league stage on a high through a comprehensive 56-run victory over the South Africa Legends.

South Africa Legends 

Though they started the proceedings by defeating West Indies by 6 wickets, South Africa Legends had a bumpy ride with their results reading WLWL. They suffered a 9-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka Legends in their second fixture, following which they thrashed England by 8 wickets. However, failing to continue their winning momentum, they were fairly outplayed during their 56-run loss against India Legends. They bounced back with a spectacular 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh Legends, ensuring for themselves a semi-final berth.

West Indies Legends

After losing three encounters in a row, the  West Indies Legends arrested their streak of losses by handing a 5-wicket loss to Bangladesh Legends in their fourth fixture of the league stage. They underwent a loss against India Legends in the tournament-opener last year, which was followed by a 6-wicket loss against South Africa Legends in what turned out to be the last game before the tournament was halted due to the pandemic. They managed 5-wicket victory against England Legends in a must-win affair to book a spot in the top-four.

England Legends

After making a promising start to the tournament with wins over Bangladesh Legends (by 7 wickets), followed by a nerve-sapping 6-run victory over India Legends, the new entrants seemed strong contenders for a top-four finish. However, they spiraled downwards, losing the remaining three fixtures on the trot, a trend which started with an 8-wicket loss against South Africa Legends. Following that was a brutal beating by Sri Lanka Legends in their second-last encounter, which they lost by 6 wickets, and they exited the tournament after West Indies Legends defeated them by 5 wickets in the last league encounter of the season.

Bangladesh Legends

The latest entrants had a tough time in the tournament as they failed to even open their account. They lost five  games on the trot – by 10 wickets against India, by 7 wickets against England, 42 runs against Sri Lanka, by 5 wickets against West Indies, and by 10 wickets against South Africa – and finished at the bottom of the table.
