West Indies continued their dominance against visitors Bangladesh as they completed a routine victory in the second T20I on Sunday, 3rd July in Dominica. The hosts defeated Bangladesh by 35 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, thanks to an all-around effort from their bowlers and batters.

Bangladesh were set a target of 194 runs on a decent batting track, but the top-order once again failed to deliver as both their openers were dismissed cheaply in consecutive deliveries by Obed McCoy. The visitors never recovered from the early stutter and lost skipper Mahmudullah in the next over. The Men in Green seemed like fighting a lost cause after losing three early wickets in pursuit of a massive total.

But following the trend of the recent matches, Shakib Al Hasan once again put his hands up for the team and stitched a valuable 55-run stand with Afif Hossain (34 off 27). The veteran all-rounder waged a lone war against the hosts as all the other batters around him failed to make any significant contributions with the bat. A lack of intent from the remaining batters meant that the visitors fell well sort of their target as Shakib remained unbeaten on 68 off 52 deliveries. Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Hayden Walsh were excellent for the hosts as they never let the Bangladeshi batters score freely in the middle overs.

Rovman Powell brutalize Bangladesh as West Indies set massive target

Earlier in the match, Nicholas Pooran elected to bat first after calling it right at the toss. West Indies didn’t have the best of starts as they lost Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks in the powerplay. Skipper Pooran and opener Brandon King steadied the ship for the hosts with a 74-run stand for the third wicket but the former was dismissed after a captain’s knock, and the stage was set for the big-hitting Rovman Powell.

Powell, who made quite a name in the IPL 2022 with his brutal hitting, did not disappoint as he plundered the hapless Bangladeshi bowlers on his way to a rollicking 20-ball half-century. The hard-hitting batter received good support from King, who made an impressive 57 off 43. The Jamaican remained unbeaten on 61 off 28 in an innings that included two boundaries and six maximums. A brisk cameo by Odean Smith in the last over propelled West Indies to 193.
