Peshawar Zalmi took two more points after winning a thriller against the Quetta Gladiators as the leggie Usman Qadir did a lot of damage in the 22nd match of PSL 2022. Earlier in the day, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and chose to bat at the Gadaffi Stadium in Karachi. Naseem Shah got the early breakthrough with the dismissal of Hazratullah Zazai while Liam Livingstone followed him in the same over to leave the Peshawar Zalmi side at 6 for 2 wickets. In-form Mohammad Haris and veteran Shoaib Malik got together a partnership and took Zalmi to the 50-run mark in the seventh over-mark.

Haris was dismissed for 29 while Malik continued his good run with Hussain Talit at the other end. Talat in particular was quite aggressive with a 33-ball 51 and Malik got his half-century as well. However, it was Ben Cutting’s 36 off 14 balls that took the team to a big score of 183 in the end and the Australian hit four sixes in his knock. Naseem finished with a four-wicket haul in the innings and was most impressive among the bowlers for Quetta Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi came back strong in the last few overs

Meanwhile, chasing a daunting total, the Quetta Gladiators did not get off to a good start as they lost two wickets within four overs for just 29 runs on the board. Will Smeed anchored the innings from one end while Sarfaraz Ahmed showed some good support as well to get a crucial partnership going. However, at the 82-run mark, Sarfaraz was dismissed for 25 by Talat to leave the Quetta Gladiators in a sort of disarray.

Ifthikar, Sohail Tanvir all were dismissed in quick time and the onus was on Smeed to take his side home. Usman Qadir’s three-wicket haul dented the run chase while Smeed was going after the bowlers from one end. In the end, Smeed was dismissed one run short of a well-deserved century with 31 runs needed in three overs. The English batter hit three sixes and 12 fours while the wicket kept falling in the other end.

At the end, the Gladiators side fell short by 24 runs with Salman Irshad and Sohair Tanvir restricting the run flow in the death overs. With this win, the Peshawar Zalmi have moved into the fourth position with four wins in eight games and have improved their net run rate as well.
