The tale of the ongoing India’s tour to Sri Lanka has been largely one sided until now and it continued to follow the same pattern even in Colombo today. With the series sealed at 3-0, Virat Kohli went ahead with three changes to the side, testing their bench strength. As a result, Shardul Thakur made his debut for the country while Kuldeep Yadav and Manish Pandey made a comeback in the One Day attire.

For a change, the series saw India bat first after winning the toss. Shikhar Dhawan did not trouble the scorers much as he was dismissed in the second over of the innings. But then came Virat Kohli and changed the entire tempo of the game. Together with Rohit Sharma, they slammed 219 runs off just 168 to derail the Sri Lankan attack. Whenever the two bat together, they never make ugly runs and are a treat to the eyes.

Virat Kohli grabbed all the eyeballs as he brought up his 29th ODI ton as he smashed 131 off 96 balls at a strike rate of 136.5, scoring 17 boundaries and a couple of sixes. Rohit Sharma from the other end creamed 104 off just 88 balls at a strike rate of 118, slamming 11 fours and three maximums. Rohit brought up his 13th ODI ton in the process.

At one point of time, India was threatening to post a target of over 400 in front of the Lankans but quick wickets of Rohit Kohli, Pandya and Rahul pulled it back acutely for the hosts. Matthews chipped in with a couple of wickets during the phase.

However, Dhoni and Pandya delivered the knockout punch with their partnership of 101 off 74 balls at the death. Pandey brought up his half century off 42 balls, while MS Dhoni fell one run short of yet another half century in his career. Twitter went gaga looking at the Indians post a target of 376 by losing five wickets.
