In what can be called a surprising statement, Australian spin wizard Shane Warne had recently said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not be able to hire him for the post of the head coach since his fees is extraordinarily high. When Warne was asked why he did not apply for the post, he said that even though he and Virat Kohli share a very good bond, he is ‘too expensive’ for BCCI to afford him.

This comment, of course, didn’t go down well with Indians, who took to Twitter to troll the Australian. One of the Twitter users advised Warne to browse through Wikipedia which says the BCCI is India’s richest sporting body and the richest cricket board in the world. Another user compared Warne to the CEO of Snapchat who had made headlines recently for saying India is a poor country which is why he wouldn’t consider expanding the app in the country.

Since Warne does not have international coaching credentials under his belt, others opined that India had better-experienced options for the post over him. Anil Kumble’s tenure ends soon after the Champions Trophy. And irrespective of whether India defend their title or not, it is imperative to mention that the team did exceptionally well during Kumble’s term, also climbing to the No. 1 spot in Test rankings.

It has been learnt that Kumble reapplied for the post on May 31, but like the previous time, he will once again have to appear for an interview ahead of the cricket advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, the three pillars of Indian cricket in the bygone era. In all probability, it seems that Kumble will be reappointed as the head coach.
