The Preity Zinta co-owned Kings XI Punjab has been the busiest franchise on the first day of the mega IPL Auctions being held at Bengaluru. After securing Ashwin and Yuvraj in the first two rounds, they got the third round of the auction underway with an intense bidding war against the Rajasthan Royal for India’s second 300-man Karun Nair.

Nair made his Test cricket debut in 2016 against England. He became the third player in international cricket to convert his maiden century into a triple century, by scoring an unbeaten 303 against England in his third Test.

Karun Nair whose base price was Rs 50 lakh eventually ended up being sold to KXIP for a whopping Rs 5.6 Crore. The 300 man goes to the team, whose director is the first Indian to score a triple ton- Virender Sehwag.

Soon enough, Punjab once again broke their bank and this time they acquired the services of KL Rahul for a whopping amount of 11 crores. Punjab seems to be going all guns blazing for Indian players only at the moment as they have now got – Axar (retained), Aswhin, Yuvraj, Karun and Rahul.

The franchise is killing it in the auction as they buy their second foreigner in Aaron Finch. The Australian big hitter goes to KXIP for 6.2 crores. Finch last played for Gujarat Lions in the cash-rich league

Earlier to that, Punjab got their hands on their first overseas players as they use the Right to Match card for South African star David Miller. Mumbai Indians had won the race for Miller for Rs 3 Crore but KXIP trumped them by using their RTM card.

Nair is a proven contender in domestic conditions

A technically sound right-handed batsman with a good temperament, Nair has successfully plied his tried in India’s domestic teams. The batsman scored three centuries from six matches for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 season, including a sparkling 151 not out in the semi-final.

Nearly twelve months later, he scored a magnificent 328 in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15. Having earned the India cap on the basis of his performances in the domestic circuit, the batsman scored a triple ton against England in December 2016. Owner Preity Zinta looked over the moon with her franchise’s signings and the Twitterati also look ecstatic. Here are some of the best Tweets.
