Jos Buttler made a comeback to the Test side for the series against Pakistan thanks to his scintillating form in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He fared pretty decently in a couple of matches and did enough to retain his place for the first of the five-match series against India. But the number 7 batsman has struggled completely at Edgbaston managing to score only a run across two innings.

The national selector Ed Smith has taken some brave decisions during his short tenure so far. Buttler was expected to take the game away from the opposition coming in to bat lower down the order. But if only the India game is considered, his show has posed more problems for the home side. The man who smashed the bowlers out of the park in the IPL earlier this year has looked a pale shadow of himself in this game.

Low on confidence

If anything, Jos Buttler has looked low on confidence. He was dismissed for a second-ball duck by Ravi Ashwin in the first innings as he completely missed a straight delivery which was bowled ever so slow by the bowler to pin him in front the stumps. He must have thought to make amends in the second attempt but Ishant Sharma had different ideas.

He was the third victim of his triple-wicket 31st over of the innings. Buttler tried to punch a back of a length delivery on the back foot but got a faint edge to the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. This time he scored only 1 run facing the similar number of deliveries he did in the first innings.

While England are still battling in the second innings to stretch the lead past 150, Twitter is busy trolling Buttler for his twin failures only in the third Test match after making a comeback.
