The last one year has been eventful for Barbados-born fast-bowler Jofra Archer. He was drafted in by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR 7.20 crores to play in the erstwhile edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League. He didn’t let them down and turned out to be their leading wicket-taker in the tournament even after not playing the first few matches of the event.
The cricketer is currently waiting for his English citizenship, which is scheduled to take place before the winter of the 2022-23 season. He has been playing club cricket in England from 2015 onwards. Prior to that, he also represented the West Indies U19 team, however, was left out of the squad that played the 2014 World Cup. He is currently representing Sussex in the County championship.
Archer bludgeons away Glamorgan
The team is currently placed at the second spot of the points table and they faced Glamorgan, who are placed at the bottom. Archer has played three matches thus far and has already been amongst the wickets with 19 wickets. He was stupendous against Glamorgan as he nipped out eight crucial wickets and conceded only 46 runs in 19.3 overs in the match.
In the first innings, he finished with figures of 10-3-15-4 and helped his team bowl out Michael Hogan’s men for a paltry 85 runs in 28.4 overs. He ripped apart the top order as his spell reduced Glamorgan to 15/5 in 7.3 overs. Sussex, after acquiring a lead of 242 runs, made their opponents follow on. Archer was menacing even in the second innings as he churned out numbers of 9.3-3-31-4.
Glamorgan was shot out for 88 runs and Ben Brown’s men won the match by an innings and 154 runs. Meanwhile, the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales is approximately ten months away and Twitter wants the fast-bowler to play for England.
Here is how Twitter reacted
Just imagine being Jofra Archer atm. One of the best bowlers in the world and doesn't even qualify to play for England for another couple of years. Literally the whole cricketing world is ahead of that kid

Can’t we just get Jofra Archer in the England team now rather than making him wait a few more years. Top quality bowler

@ECB_cricket Can you please select Jofra Archer for England? Thanks in anticipation.

So the ECB could actually find a way to get Jofra Archer by relaxing the eligibility rules. Seems a no brainer to me that bloke needs to be playing for England

Jofra Archer 4-7 off his first 7 overs. He’s on FIRE! Glamorgan 34 for 6. First change bowler Chris Jordan? Can’t be right for 2nd division team…#sussexccc

Fair play to Jofra Archer his bowling is on point, but Glamorgan's batting has been poor!
— Turtle Combover (@TurtleCombover) July 23, 2018
Try telling me Jofra Archer isn't the best cricketer alive
— Ben (@BMLanceley) July 23, 2018
@legsidelizzy heard you talking about Jofra Archer earlier. If ECB have anything to do with it, they'll change the rules so they can pick him, make him bowl a few 3 ball overs, then a 10 ball one. On one leg. To keep things simple
