India U19 team scripted history under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw by winning the World Cup held in New Zealand for the record fourth time. The Indian board, soon after the victory, announced the cash reward of prizes of Rs 50, 30 and 20 lakhs for Rahul Dravid, the players and the coaching staff respectively. Dravid had reservations with the same and demanded parity in rewards for everyone in the support staff. However, Twitterati absolutely loved this gesture from him and hilariously backed him to become the next Prime Minister of India.
Dravid played a key role in the India colts winning the marquee event which held in the Kiwi nation. Though he always felt that the credit should go to the players who did the job on the field. But when it came to cash award that was announced by BCCI, he was of the opinion that all the members of the support staff should be equally rewarded as they had also put in their efforts to groom the youngsters.
Twitter in awe of Dravid
Soon after coming back from New Zealand, the former Indian cricketer had a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of BCCI and cleared his stand regarding the same. He requested to make changes in the announced cash reward by the board and also accepted 50% pay cut in his own reward. BCCI, however, accepted his decision and made changes accordingly in the prize money.
This selfless gesture from Rahul Dravid allowed all the members of the support of the winning team an equal amount of cash reward. Also, the people who trained with the U19 team in their year-long preparation were also rewarded including the late trainer Rajesh Savant.
Twitterati was absolutely in awe of the former Indian cricketer and batted for him to become the next Prime Minister who is willing to take the pay cut. They also hailed him for staying grounded despite everyone praised him for his involvement with the young team.
