The former Indian captain MS Dhoni was conferred with Padma Bhushan award on Monday at the hands of the President Ramnath Kovind. It was a memorable moment for the cricket fans as the most loved cricketer in India was honoured with the third highest civilian award in the country. Moreover, Dhoni won the hearts by wearing the Army uniform for the ceremony and also marched like an Army man to receive the award. However, Twitterati found humour in this as well after Dhoni and his wife clicked a picture with Narendra Modi.
The Indian Territorial Army had granted the then Indian skipper the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on November 1 in 2011 only months after he won the team a prestigious World Cup. Even Dhoni’s wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva were present for the function as they were happy to see him being honoured. Even the likes of multiple Billiards champions Pankaj Advani was also awarded Padma Bhushan for his extraordinary in his career in the sport.
Twitter trolls Modi
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi as well who met the award winners later in the day. Even MS Dhoni met him is the same Army attire and impressed him. He and his wife clicked an adorable picture with Modi. Fittingly, it was also the seventh anniversary of India’s World Cup victory in the final of which the Indian captain had scored a match-winning knock of 91* off just 78 deliveries. He is currently preparing for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhoni will lead Chennai Super Kings once again this year after a gap of two long years. It would be interesting to see the way he leads the team after almost 18 months at the helm.
Meanwhile, Twitterati had a lot of fun after they saw Dhoni and Sakshi clicking the picture with the Prime Minister of India. While they hailed the superman of India, few also trolled Modi.
Here’s how they reacted:
