The Indian selection committee on Sunday announced the squads for the full tour of West Indies that starts in August. The Indian team will play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches against Windies beginning with the first two T20Is being played in Florida, the USA on August 3 and 4. The two-Test series will be played under the inaugural World Test Championship. The squads as expected have a few fresh faces along with the players who will be backed for the future returns.

The limited-overs team saw some new entrants as cousins Deepak and Rahul Chahar were chosen in the T20I squad along with Washington Sundar; while Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer earned comeback into the team on the basis of their performances in the ongoing India A tour of West Indies. However, one name was missing in the announced squad, despite doing similar to Pandey and Iyer on the Caribbean tour and that was Shubman Gill.

The 19-year-old Punjab batsman came into the limelight for his brilliant performances in the ICC U19 World Cup and then for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2018 and 2019. He was also included in the Indian team for ODIs against New Zealand when KL Rahul was banned after his appearance on Koffee with Karan. Though he didn’t make any runs, he was impressive enough to stay in contention for Team India in the World Cup squad.

He was piped to make it into the Indian squad for the Caribbean, given his skills, talents and performance in the ongoing series. He has scored 149 runs from three innings at an average of 49.67 for India A in the five-match series against West Indies a so far. Thus, his omission from the announced squads has not gone well with the fans and the were pretty expressive on social media.

Many of them were expecting him to be picked over the likes of Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav. However, when the duo made it into the limited-overs teams, Twitterati went into rage mode and admonished the selectors for overlooking Gill.

Here are some tweets bashing the selectors:
