Rising Pune Supergiant batsman Ben Stokes proved to be the big match player yet again for his team. Playing against the Gujarat Lions, the English all-rounder helped RPS register a clinical win despite the early jolts. Stokes arrived at the crease with RPS 3 down with only 10 runs on the board. Slowly, yet steadily, the superman from England carved a majestic ton to help the Supergiant have a super finish in the match.

Ben Stokes came into bat in the second over of the match to join Rahul Tripathi at the crease. He took charge of the innings right from the word go. Despite having lost Tripathi soon after, Stokes did not let that tinker his flow with the bat. He was joined by MS Dhoni at the crease and the two star players added 76 runs for the fifth wicket.

The conditions were not the most favourable for batting and that was evident from the fact that even Dhoni struggled to hit the balls with ease. He scored at a strike rate less than 80. Hence, it was virtually down to Stokes to ensure that the run flow did not choke up at the other end. After having reached his fifty in the 12th over of the match, he set his foot on the accelerator.

It was in the final over that he reached his maiden T20 century with a four off the bowling of James Faulkner. He did not hit blindly and all his shots were proper cricketing shots. With that, he became the second Englishman to register a century in the history of the IPL. Stokes cramped down towards the end of the run chase but did not let his spirits go down. His unbeaten century saw RPS chase down 161 with 5 wickets in hand.

Stokes scored an unbeaten 103 that came off 63 balls with 7 fours and 6 sixes to his name. He set the auctions on fire earlier this year, and he put the MCA stadium on fire with a ton to his name.

Here is how the Twitterati reacted to his heroics:
