Team India skipper Virat Kohli and the head coach of the team, Ravi Shastri, share great camaraderie in the dressing room. The outstanding rapport between the coach and the captain is one of the prime reasons for India’s herculean rise in world cricket in the recent times. The two gentlemen share great understanding between themselves. Recently, during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Kolkata, one such moment of great understanding was at display on the field.
The action perspired on the final day’s play. Team India desperately wanted to make a match out of the rain-affected game. Hence, the onus was on the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to score quick runs and declare the Indian innings. This would have given them a crack at the opposition team.
The time for the tea on the final day was fast approaching, and also, at the very same time, Kohli was nearing his 18th Test ton. The biggest dilemma for the Indian captain was to pick between scoring a ton or declaring soon after getting the lead of 200. He was batting well and deserved a century for sure. When the lead looked like being in the vicinity of 200, the sign language communication began.
It was just then that he was seen looking towards the dressing room at Ravi Shastri. He showed some hand movements, and Ravi Shastri responded back with some gestures as well. Well, the most common interpretation that one could come up with after the entire episode is that Kohli was asking if he should declare rightaway.
The Indian coach responded back gesturing that he should wait until he gets to his individual milestone and then declare the innings. The BCCI took to Twitter to post a video of the same interaction and asked the fans if they could decipher the sign language. The caption that BCCI added to the tweet read, “How about that for sign language? Care to decode this conversation between the Captain and Coach? #INDvSL”.
