Pakistan lost the five-match ODI series against England by 4-0 and soon after the conclusion of the contest, they finalised the 15-man World Cup squad. The selection panel led by Inzamam-u-Haq decided to bring back Mohammad Amir who didn’t find a place in the preliminary squad announced last month. The left-arm pacer was part of the team in England but couldn’t play a game due to illness.

Amir was down with suspected chicken pox after falling ill ahead of the second ODI and that kept him away from the action for the whole series. Rather the series against Pakistan was his final chance to stake a claim but the other pacers’ failure has paved way for his inclusion. Pakistan bowlers conceded more than 1400 runs in a high-scoring series and were found wanting at times in the middle.

Mohammad Amir has replaced Junaid Khan in the squad who picked only two wickets in the 18 overs he bowled conceding 142 runs in the process.

Amir’s wicket drought

On the other hand, Mohammad Amir is not in good form either. But his experience of playing in England and his ability of bowling economically helped him get the nod ahead of the others according to Inzamam-ul-Haq. It has also been confirmed that the 27-year-old has been recovered fully from the suspected chicken pox and is expected to join the squad in Bristol on May 22.

Amir’s place in the playing XI though is still not confirmed as he will have to bowl out of his skins in the warm-up matches. Pakistan will play the warm-up games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh on May 24 and 26 in Bristol and Cardiff before starting their World Cup campaign against the Windies on May 31 in Nottingham.

Meanwhile, the fans are ecstatic to see Pakistan one of the best players back in the squad and welcomed him back to the set-up. They will be hoping that he performs and keep the Men in Green in the hunt to win the coveted title.
