Twitterati react after Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan get maiden India call-up for England T20Is

On Saturday, February 20, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) picked the squad for the upcoming T20I series against England, scheduled to get underway on March 12. The likes of Rahul Tewatia, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav got their maiden national call-ups. Varun Chakravarthy, who missed the Australia tour due to injury, also made his way into the squad.

Even as Tewatia played for Rajasthan Royals (RR), who finished last on the points table, Kishan and Suryakumar plied their trade for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kishan wasn’t a first-choice player for them in 2021 and only made the eleven after a few injury concerns in the camp.

The southpaw batted in the middle-order and opened as well, showing his versatility. Back in 2018, MI, the five-time champions of the IPL, picked Kishan up for a stunning amount of INR 6.20 crores. Kishan was a 19-year-old then and he managed to create a bidding war. After signing him, Mahela Jayawardene, MI’s head coach, said how Kishan was one for the future.

“I think he’s definitely a talent. The other teams were interested in him up to Rs 6.2 crore says that he’s a talent for the future and they probably rate him at the price. Some of the other Indian wicketkeeper-batsmen went at a higher price because it’s difficult to find an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman,” Jayawardene had told.

Suryakumar was outstanding as well. He batted at number three and mostly carried forward the good work from the openers. His top score in the tournament came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
