Australia’s pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has also missed the ongoing fourth and final Test against South Africa. The left-arm fast bowler has suffered a tibial bone stress injury and will travel back home after the end of the series for the further assessment. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping amount of Rs 9.4 Crores during the auction in January earlier this year.

The Australian team has been under the radar for quite some time now after the trio of Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft and David Warner were banned for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal. Even their coach Darren Lehmann has resigned from the helm and will step down at the end of the ongoing Test match. With Starc being ruled out, it has an immediate effect on the stardom of the tournament like IPL as Smith and Warner are already missing the T20 extravaganza.

Huge blow for KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders went hammer on tongs for Mitchell Starc in the auction and shelled a huge amount for him only to find themselves in trouble now. They only have 19 players in their squad and the franchise cannot afford to lose gun players like the Aussie bowler ahead of the tournament. They have to find an able replacement now for him soon with IPL only 8 days away now.

The core of their overseas group Andre Russell, Chris Lynn always have an injury cloud over them as management has to manage their workloads carefully. Also, Sunil Narine’s bowling action has been reported during the Pakistan Super League which will be on his minds as well.

Twitter though was disappointed after yet another Australian cricketer was ruled out of the tournament. While some found some humour even in this news, KKR fans were left wondering about their future of the season.
