Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is often seen as one of the most destructive batsmen in the limited overs cricket. In the IPL 2018, he arrived with a similar reputation and joined a new franchise, the Delhi Daredevils. Over the last four editions of the tournament, Maxwell had been an integral part of the Kings XI Punjab roster. At the auctions this year, he found new takers in the Daredevils.
Many believed that a big name like Glenn Maxwell could add the ideal boost that the team needed in the tournament. Much to their disappointment and the disappointment of the DD camp, Maxwell failed to impress with the bat. In the early part of the season, he did contribute to the team’s cause by chipping in with crucial wickets. His off spin looked decent for a couple of overs in every game that he played.
However, when his primay skill was under the testing lens, Glenn Maxwell failed to fire big time. At the end of the season, he finished with just 169 runs to his name in the 12 matches that he played. Maxwell’s top score in the season was only 47, and he obviously, failed to hit any fifty in the season. Furthermore, the thing that hurt the franchise even more was the fact that they had shelled out INR 9 crore to buy his services this year.
It is worth noting that the fans often called for his axing after the poor show. Many criticized the DD management and the coach Ricky Ponting for being biased towards him and the Australian cricketers. Despite all the social media calls, the team stuck to his services in the tournament. Recently, after Delhi’s win in the final league game of the season, their coach, Ricky Ponting reasoned out why they continued with Maxwell.
In the match, Maxwell was tried as an opener and he contributed with 22 to his name. Soon after the game, the fans took to the social media platform Twitter to mock Maxwell as the biggest flop of the season.
Here is how the Twitterati brutally trolled Glenn Maxwell:

Someone tell Glenn Maxwell he can still get picked if Ricky Ponting remains DD's coach next year. No need to score. #IPL

#GlennMaxwell would officially have to be the biggest letdown of the #VivoIpl2018… #DelhiDaredevils played with 1 player less every game which he was a part of… With his heavy price tag and utter lack of application throughout the tournament, the big show was a no show!
