Nicholas Pooran has had a horrendous campaign in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-hander has played a number of match-winning knocks for his teams and even hammered a century in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) while playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
However, for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL edition, he has stuttered. In seven games thus far, the southpaw has scored 28 runs at an average and strike rate of 4.66 and 84.84 respectively.
It’s also pertinent to note that he has managed to bag four ducks thus far in the six innings he has batted in. In the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday, April 30, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Pooran got out for a three-ball duck.
Nicholas Pooran slumps to another failure
He came to bat at number four after Chris Gayle took the PBKS off to a flying start. At that point in time, the Kings were rollicking along at 99 for two in 10.4 overs. The platform was set for Pooran to fire on all cylinders and take his team to a competitive total.
However, Pooran couldn’t make use of the opportunity and gave his wicket way to New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson. Jamieson churned out a short delivery and Pooran tried to run the ball down to the third man region.
But the southpaw couldn’t find any sort of timing and holed out to Shahbaz Ahmed at backward point. His wicket left KL Rahul and Co to 107 for the loss of three wickets in 11.3 overs. After he got out, Rahul took the onus on himself to guide his side to a reasonable score.
Rahul went on to stay unbeaten on 91 runs off 57 balls with seven fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 159.64. He got the apt support from Harpreet Brar, who scored 25 runs off 17 balls with one four and two sixes.
Brar had replaced Moises Henriques in the PBKS playing eleven. In the meantime, the netizens have come down hard on Pooran for not being able to perform to expectations with the bat.
Here’s how the netizens reacted:

Another duck for Nicholas Pooran, it's his 4th duck this season. He's a duck in zero ball, 1 ball, 2 ball and now a 3rd ball duck.

Not good time for Pooran, he was at it's absolute best in the last season, still one of the best at number 4. He will be back stronger:)
