The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to get underway on Saturday, September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Prior to the start of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) are being deemed as the favourites to win the championship. However, very few reckon that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could go all the way through.
The Challengers, led by Virat Kohli, are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy after trying hard for 12 years. On three occasions, they have qualified for the final. However, on every other occasion, they ended up on the losing side. The defunct Deccan Chargers, the Super Kings (CSK) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have beaten them in the last hurdle.
RCB looking to turn their fortunes around
Going into the upcoming season, RCB will be looking to make amends. Their first match is against David Warner’s SRH on Monday, September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Virat, their captain, has been trying his heart out and has also been leading the team since the 2013 edition after New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori stepped down from his position.
Kohli is also the leading run-scorer of the IPL with five centuries, four of which came in 2016 when he scored nearly 1,000 runs in a single season. In the meantime, going into the tournament, Challengers launched their new theme song. It features the skipper, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn. Both ABD and Virat have been linchpins of their setup for nearly a decade.
Steyn, on the other hand, has been a part of the Challengers, though he hasn’t played a whole lot. The video starts with crowds chanting and the RCB flag waving. Then enters the stalwarts, and Yuzvendra Chahal, followed by clips from some rigorous training sessions.
Earlier, Kohli has said that RCB are looking far more confident than the previous seasons and are set to weave magic. This time around, they also have Aaron Finch and Adam Zampa, who both have been in decent form of late.
In the meantime, the fans aren’t quite happy with song. The netizens feel that Hindi has been used way too frequently than Kannada. Subsequently, they expressed their displeasure.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted: –
The entire state is fighting a battle today to avoid Hindi imposition in the state of Karnataka.
Comes RCB – Which represents the state of Kannada Nadu having a rich cricketing history releasing it's anthem which involves unnecessary use of Hindi.
Embarrassing.

Should've included more kannada
Spanish, German, French teams don't include English, why we need to do it ? Go Local

Disappointed! Where's the local language?? Should have been in English and Kannada… Not Hindi…

#RCB supporters in Karnataka 80%
Outside Karnataka 15%
Outside India 5% but still uneducated admin using #hindi more than #kannada #bycottrcb— Jayaram appu (@JSangalad) September 18, 2020
Learn from Chennai team. They use only Tamil and that's how you capture the hearts of the locals. Not holding bucket to your north indians and trying to please them !! Make a song with Kannada !! Not with hindi on it. Ee sala chombu kooda sigalla nimge

even though i understand hindi and i like this song but it would have been better if they included more kannada in it….

Shameless vermin having hindi lyrics…Yuck..
RCB is a private team. Simply foolish Kannadigas waste time and passion on this crap.
Losers of the first order!

It's a wrong assumption that you will lose supporters from other states if you use state language. If Bengaluru team doesn't promotes Kannada then who else will. Just my opinion. My mother tongue is Malayalam and I feel so happy the way #csk promotes their local culture.

Why Hindi in RCB anthem.? Please replace Hindi lines with Kannada. Otherwise don't expect support from us. #StopHindiImposition

What's with the Hindi?? Don't associate yourself with Bengaluru at all.. we love the team because of the "Bangalore" associated with it.. don't be so arrogant.. I would never buy tickets to watch your matches at Chinnaswamy.. #disappointedfan @devdpd07 @imVkohli @DanishSait
