The Indian batting lineup has floundered miserably in the ongoing Test series against England. In the first Test at Edgbaston, the likes of Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul couldn’t quite hit their straps and perished cheaply. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, played a couple of herculean knocks, however, he got no semblance of support from his fellow batsmen.

In a bid to make a strong statement in the second Test at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, the team management made a few changes in the lineup. Shikhar Dhawan made way for Cheteshwar Pujara and KL Rahul was sent to open the batting with Murali Vijay. Despite making the alterations, the visiting team couldn’t put forth a strong batting performance by any means.

Fans want Shaw to play Test cricket

Vijay succumbed to James Anderson and bagged a pair at the ‘Home of Cricket’. On the contrary, the English batters have shown that the pitch doesn’t have demons to be petrified of by any stretch of the imagination. Rahul, who was drafted in following his stupendous performances in the limited-overs formats, also couldn’t translate his form in red-ball cricket.

In the meantime, Twitterati has called for the inclusion of Prithvi Shaw, India U19’s World Cup-winning captain, to get an international call-up. Shaw recently toured England with the India ‘A’ and was pretty much up to the mark. The 18-year old was also impressive in the first-class matches. He scored 188 runs against Windies ‘A’ at Beckenham and helped his team out of a tricky situation.

He is currently playing in India ‘A’s two-match unofficial Test series against South Africa ‘A’. The pugnacious potential scored a superlative century in the first match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. He was also outstanding for Mumbai in his maiden Indian domestic stint. The supporters reckon that Shaw can definitely be an answer to India’s overseas batting woes.
