The second T20I between West Indies Women and Pakistan Women on Friday, July 2, was a witness to a freak incident. At the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation collapsed on the field during the visitors’ run-chase.

Both the occurring took place in a span of 10 minutes after which the two players from the home team were taken to the hospital. As per a Cricket West Indies (CWI) spokesperson, both are “conscious and stable”. The reason for their collapse, nevertheless, remains a mystery as of now.

“Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation were taken to hospital for medical attention. Both Henry and Nation are conscious and stable at hospital and are being assessed,” CWI was quoted as saying in a statement, ESPN reported.

In the meantime, the match was delayed, but it resumed with West Indies bringing in two substitutes. The game was also interrupted by rain and the hosts won by seven runs- DLS Method.

Javeria Khan sends her prayers for the West Indies players

Javeria Khan, the Pakistan skipper, also sent in her prayers for Henry and Nation and wished for the duo to play the third T20I on Sunday, July 4 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.

“The thoughts and prayers of the whole Pakistan team are with Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation. We wish them a quick recovery and are hopeful that we will play against them in our next match on Sunday,” Khan stated in a statement.

She also lauded the hosts for playing the remainder of the second T20I after the incident. “Such incidents are tragic and can shake whole dressing rooms. Hats off to the West Indies that they turned up and completed the match despite the grave incident,” she added.

The incident was reminiscent of the one that took place in June during the Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland. Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and became unconscious after which he was taken to the hospital.

However, reports, later, revealed that he’s safe and stable. The match resumed after a while and Finland went on to beat Denmark by 1-0 after Joel Pohjanpalo scored for the Finnish team.
