U19 World Cup 2020: Divyansh Joshi ruled out of the tournament after dislocating his shoulder; Siddhesh Veer named as replacement

The 2020 edition of the U-19 World Cup is just one week away. The latest edition will take place in the rainbow nation where the future stars will take center stage in the rainbow nation, South Africa. The defending champions will once again enter the tournament as one of the prime contenders for retaining their silverware. The batch of 2020 has a plethora of exciting talents including fast bowling duo of Karthik Tyagi and Akash Singh, opener Yasasvi Jaiswal and the skipper Priyam Garg himself.
India warmed up a quadrangular series win in South Africa but just as things were looking hunky-dory, the set-up has been jolted by an injury to all-rounder Divyansh Joshi. Joshi dislocated his right shoulder while fielding during the opening game of the One-day series against South Africa. The opener has been ruled out from the upcoming U-19 World Cup and the All-India Junior selection committee has named Siddhesh Veer from Maharashtra as his replacement.
“India U19 all-rounder Divyansh Joshi has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup following an injury sustained in the first match of the bilateral one-day series against host South Africa. Divyansh dislocated his right shoulder after suffering a fall while India U19 were fielding. The All-India Junior Selection Committee has named Siddhesh Veer from Maharashtra Cricket Association as Divyansh’s replacement,” the BCCI stated in a media release on Friday.

Joshi had a mixed campaign in the recently concluded Quadrangular series in South Africa involving Zimbabwe, New Zealand and the hosts as the other sides. The left-handed batsman’s talent was on full show in India’s group-stage fixture against Zimbabwe where he racked up a whirlwind 137-ball 128 which included 11 fours and one six.
Siddhesh Veer, meanwhile, made the most of his opportunities that he got in the Quadrangular series. The right-handed batsman was awarded the Player of the Match for his exploits against New Zealand where he scored an 87-ball 71. Veer backed it up with a whirlwind unbeaten 37-ball 48 in the all-important final against South Africa to help India post an eventual match-winning total of 7-259.
Speaking of the finals, it was wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, who was the architect of India’s comeback after they had been reduced to 3-13. The right-hander steadied the fledgeling innings and racked up a three-figure score paving way for Atharva Ankolekar [4-31] and the bowlers to defend the target and lead the U-19 colts to the titular heist.
