David Warner led his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their maiden title victory in the 9th edition of IPL on Sunday. SRH beat Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) in the final by 8 runs at Bangalore.

After winning the toss and batting first, SRH posted a score of 208 with Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh and Ben Cutting making valuable contributions. RCB had a good start to the chase with 100 runs coming up in 9 overs. But after the dismissal of big guns like Chris Gayle (76), Virat Kohli (54) and AB de Villiers (5), RCB struggled and found themselves 8 runs short of the victory.

SRH had a tough path to travel to the finals, they had played 3 knockout matches to win the title, beating, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator, Gujarat Lions (GL) in the second qualifier and the finals against RCB at their home ground. It was no different from the RCB, where Royal Challengers had to win all their last 4 games to qualify for the playoffs.

While the whole world was enjoying the nail-biting final which went all the way down to the final over, Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal took to Twitter after the completion of the match to ‘congratulate’ Warner for the ‘Pakistan Super League’ (PSL) win instead of IPL win.
