Clouds of Uncertainty looms over the scheduling of India’s tour of Australia later in the year, with the sticking point being the day-night Test that is expected to take place at Adelaide. The pink-ball showdown has become one of the most coveted games in the recent times for Cricket Australia since its debut in November 2015. The pink-ball showdowns are marked by record-crowd and a better television rating to the normal Test cricket.
Australia took on arch-rivals England in a day-night encounter which saw a record crowd at the stadium. Following that, the Australian board had made plans of a similar test against India later this year. According to Cricbuzz, there was a plan of unveiling the Australian season in the month of February, but the plans were delayed due to the point over the proposed day-nighter fixture in Adelaide.
The announcement could be further delayed, after the on-going embarrassment for the Australian cricket board. Further, the board is continuing to negotiate over a new broadcast rights deal.
Scheduling and its complexities take a toll on Cricket Australia:
“We are currently finalizing the detail of these tours with respective member boards,” a CA spokesperson told Cricbuzz in regards to the 2018-19 season. “Scheduling of any sport has its complexities, with a number of parties that need to be consulted throughout the process.”
India is the only team that has not played a day-nighter Test match, while all the other major teams have played at least one of them. Australia has participated in four day-night Test match, with a perfect record.
Venues for the series:
The No.1 ranked India, on the other hand, have had their reservations on the pink-ball Test due to a lack of practice time. There exists a possibility that India could play their first day-night Test in October against the West Indies at home.
If that exists, the chances of India’s day-night Test against Australia might go through. The venues for the Test series are Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney over the period of two months from December to January.
