A compact opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne has all that it takes to be at the center stage in the cricket fraternity. With his debut in 2011 for Sri Lanka, the 33-year-old made headlines with his class and attractive strokeplay.

Almost a decade later, the batsman continues to flaunt his class with the willow but can conveniently complain about not receiving the deserved respect and appreciation for the contribution he has made to the Sri Lanka cricket team.

Though Karunaratne forms a backbone of New Zealand’s batting line-up in ODIs too, he is fondly renowned as a red-ball specialist. Since his debut in the purest format of the game in 2012, the 33-year-old has featured in a stunning 72 Test matches.

In them, Dimuth has collected 5176 runs at an average of 38.6. Coming to the One Day Internationals, the left-hander has played 34 matches scoring 767 runs at an average of 27.4.
