Pakistan quick Mohammad Amir, before the iconic England tour, had withdrawn to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. But after the birth of his daughter, Amir recently announced his decision to ply his trade on the English soil by re-joining the Pakistan squad.

The speedster was cleared to join the Pakistan squad after he was tested negative twice for COVID-19. Amir, who plays for Pakistan only in the shorter formats, had stunned the cricket fraternity last year by announcing his retirement from the Test format. Amir, who has so far donned the Pakistan jersey in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 48 T20Is, had cited workload of playing all three formats as the reason behind his decision.

Meanwhile, Amir has boarded the flight to the UK to join his teammates for the international fixtures against England. Amir will land in the UK on Friday and will remain in self-isolation for five days and he will also undergo COVID-19 test twice before joining the Pakistan squad.

Pakistan to play three Tests and as many T20Is in England

Mohammad Amir’s wife, Narjis, came up with a heartfelt message as the pacer left for the UK to be a part of Pakistan’s limited-overs expeditions. Amir and Narjis had tied the knot in 2016 and was blessed with the first kid in November 2017.

“Have a safe flight @official.mamir. May Allah be with u always and protects u from all evil, me minsa and zoya will be missing u and praying for u until we meet again really soon InshAllah. Allah nigehdar. Fateh naseeb ho hamesha AMEEN,” wrote Amir’s wife.

Pakistan are slated to play three Tests and as many T20Is on the English soil, starting from August 5. Since Amir only plays in the shorter formats for Pakistan, he’ll be seen in action during the T20I series. The pacer had last braced the field while playing for Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League (PSL) before the tournament was called off before the semi-finals in the wake of the pandemic.

The first batch of Pakistan team landed in the UK in June while those who tested negative in July boarded the flight in the first week of the month. This will be Pakistan’s first international series amid the pandemic. England, however, have already flagged off their return to cricket by locking horns with West Indies in a three-Test series.
