Pakistan cricket is always known to unearth some amazing left-arm seamers and this time Usman Khan has put his hand up at the highest level. The left-arm pace bowler has wreaked havoc over the Sri Lankan batsmen and has picked up a five-wicket haul in only his second One-Day International game. The fifth and final ODI of the series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is being played in Sharjah on Monday.

The hosts are leading the series by 4-0 and are on the cusp of creating a history by whitewashing the team from the island nation. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would want to avoid an embarrassment of getting clean swept for the third time in the year. But somehow the players don’t seem to be coming out of the rut. It would be interesting to see the way Upul Tharanga leads the team and if he could infuse some energy into his teammates.

Usman Khan’s magical spell

After opting to bat first, Tharanga strode out to the middle with a new partner Sadeera Samarawickrama. But the latter was castled in the very first over by the 23-year-old bowler and followed it with a beautiful outswinger to Dinesh Chandimal. The visitors were rocked early with two wickets and the routine continued. Usman bowled a peach of a delivery to Tharanga and uprooted his middle stump. Soon Dickwella too was undone by the inswinging brilliance of the bowler and they were reduced to 8/4. Milinda Siriwardana was the next man to follow as he chipped an outside the off-stump delivery straight to Fakhar Zaman. Usman Khan, after his first spell, has returned with brilliant figures of 5-0-24-5.

Twitterati was overawed with his performance and hailed the youngster for his exceptional bowling. Also, the fact that he is only playing in the second ODI of his career has amazed the cricket fans. Pakistan needs to nurture the talented bowler properly now and should keep him in the plans for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Here’s how Twitterati erupted:
