Veteran Glamorgan batsman, Will Bragg, has announced his retirement from all forms of the game with immediate effect. The elegant batsman had been an integral part of the Glamorgan setup for almost a decade. He decided to call it a day in competitive cricket after a start-stop 2017 season. He has been unwell this season and this seems to be the prime reason behind him hanging his boots. In the Royal London One Day Cup, he had hit a brilliant 94 in the game against Kent this season.

As per the quotes in Cricbuzz, Will Bragg noted that it has been a pleasure to play for the Glamorgan side for over a decade. He, however, added that he is excited for the next phase of his life and hopes for something exciting to perspire too. Bragg had made his debut back in the year 2005. He scored over 1000 runs in the 2016 domestic season. He has played 111 First Class matches for his 5673 runs that includes 35 fifties and 6 centuries. He has 47 List A matches to his name as well.

“It’s been a great experience to come through the age groups of Welsh Cricket and represent Glamorgan for over a decade. Last season was a frustrating one for me personally and I believe now is the right time for me to step away from the game and start focusing on building a new career in another area,” quoted Will Bragg.

“I’ve always been proactive about my life away from the game, and while it may be odd not to be reporting back to training with the lads this winter I am enthused and excited by what the future holds for me. I’d like to thank all those people who have supported me over the years and I leave offering nothing but the best wishes for the club moving forward,” he added further.

Integral part of Glamorgan

Meanwhile, the team management at Glamorgan know that they will miss the services of Will Bragg. The Chief Executive of the team congratulated Will on a very successful career. He also wished him all the luck for his future endeavors. He admitted that it is indeed sad to the career of such a talented player end in a premature manner.

“Will Bragg has been an integral part of Glamorgan for more than a decade. He was a big part of the dressing room and a fine batsman for the Club, so it’s sad to see his career end prematurely. Will can look back on his professional career with great pride and on behalf of the club, the committee and all our supporters I want to thank him for his dedication to Glamorgan and wish him and his family all the very best in the future,” Hugh Morris, Glamorgan Chief Executive, quoted.
