Team Karnataka added yet another feather to their glorious hat. They beat team Saurashtra in the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to lift the coveted silverware. Karnataka has been one of the most dominant sides in the Indian domestic circuit in the recent times. A lot of this has to be credited to the ideal balance of experienced players like R Vinay Kumar and Sreenath Arvind, and the youth like Mayank Agarwal.
While the news of the Vijay Hazare Trophy win comes as a big one for the mighty Karnataka outfit, the team has also received a rather unhappy news at the end of it. One of their veteran stars has called it a day in the Domestic cricket. Veteran bowler Sreenath Aravind has retired from the Domestic cricket with immediate effect.
Sreenath Aravind did not have a major part to play in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy though. He played just two matches in the tournament including the finals against team Saurashtra. Aravind failed to pick a wicket in those two outings. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tropy, the T20 tournament that preceded the premier domestic one-day competition, was a good outing for Sreenath Aravind though. In the match against Punjab, he had scalped 4/32 in his four overs.
Career in numbers
In all, the illustrious domestic career of Aravind comes to a halt with 56 First Class matches to his name. In the 56 matches that he played for Karnataka, he scalped 186 wickets with 10 four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls. Furthermore, his best figugres were of 5/49 and his economy was as impressive as 2.59. He had made his First Class debut back in the 2008-09 season in a fixture against Mumbai.
His List A career was not bad either. Sreenath Aravind played 41 matches for Karnataka and returned with 57 wickets to his name with a best of 4/41. His List A debut had come against Andhra in the year 2009. His first stint with the Karnataka outfit was in the T20s when he played against Kerala in 2007. In the 84 T20s that he has played, he has scalped 103 wickets.
His impressive numbers in the shortest format had fetched him a T20I call up as well. His only international game came against South Africa in Dharamsala where he returned with figures of 1/44 in a losing cause. His only international wicket was Faf du Plessis.
