Vijay Hazara Trophy 2018-19 - Round 2: Review

It was another enthralling day in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as some records went for a toss and the rain gods’ involvement influenced a few results. Whilst Shahbaz Nadeem broke a 21-year-old List-A record, three games held in the state of Karnataka got disrupted due to rain and the VJD Method came into play to decide the result.

The game which drew a lot of attention was Jharkhand in their match against Rajasthan as that game saw a long-lasting List A record shattered. Shahbaz Nadeem‘s breathtaking spell of 8/10 caught Rajasthan off-guard and they got bowled out for a paltry 73 runs batting first. Jharkhand chased the total down losing three wickets in 14.3 overs.

Delhi managed to outplay Saurashtra in their Elite Group B fixture. Fifties from Sheldon Jackson, Jaydev Shah and Aarpit Vasavada helped them get to 237 runs in their 50 overs. Suboth Bhati picked up 5-fer for Delhi. In reply, brilliant knocks from Himmat Singh and veteran Gautam Gambhir helped them chase the total with four overs to spare.

Priyank Panchal’s ton secures a win for Gujarat

A stupendous performance from Priyank Panchal helped Gujarat defeat Tamil Nadu in a closely-fought battle by four wickets. Batting first, Tamil Nadu registered just 205 runs in their quota of overs. Their bowlers did a good job in getting some early wickets, but Priyank Panchal’s 117 off 129 balls helped Gujarat get to the score.

Maharashtra registered a comprehensive victory over heavyweights Karnataka. Ankit Bawne’s ton and Rahul Tripathi’s 70 helped them notch 245 runs in their 50 overs. In the rain-marred game, Karnataka could only score 107 runs in 22.2 overs losing six wickets. The VJD method came into play and Maharashtra emerged victorious by 57 runs.

The defending Ranji Champions Vidarbha bowed down to Baroda in the Group A fixture in Bangalore. Vidarbha registered 254 runs in their 50 overs banking on fifties from Faiz Fazal and Atharva Taide. In reply, the match got interrupted when Baroda were at 151/2 in 29 overs. No cricket was played after that due to rain and Baroda were adjudged the winner of the game.

Youngster Ishan Porel and Prayas Barman came up with brilliant spells as Bengal bowled out Jammu & Kashmir for a paltry 96 runs in their first innings. In reply, Bengal chased the total in just 20.4 overs and boosted their net run-rate big time.
