Rain gods interrupted in a lot of games on Sunday in what turned out to be another exciting day at the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Whilst a few teams like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are romping out of sight, sides like Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh are left with a lot of catching up to do.

Punjab and Maharashtra locked horns in what was the biggest match of Round four. Ankit Bawne scored yet another hundred, which propelled Maharashtra to 281 in their first innings. No batsman in the Punjab lineup managed to hit the 40 run-mark and eventually, they got bowled out for 187 runs, handing Maharashtra a 94-run win.

Another side from Maharashtra, the powerhouse Mumbai, registered a humongous win as well. Batting first, they registered 400 runs on the board with youngster Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer registering big centuries. Shams Mulani’s incredible spell saw Railways getting bundled out for 227 runs, which saw Mumbai win the game by a whopping 173 runs.

Tripura drag Bengal to the edge

A highly-spirited performance from Tripura saw them almost take down the heavyweights Bengal. Chasing an above par 273, Smit Patel scored a century and almost took the side home. He remained unbeaten till the end, but Bengal’s bowlers held their nerves and won the game by 9 runs.

Saurashtra registered a comprehensive victory against Hyderabad in a rain-marred encounter in Delhi. Bavanaka Sandeep’s 76 helped Hyderabad crawl to 196 runs in 45 overs and in reply, Saurashtra got to the revised target of 110 runs in 18.5 overs and won the game by 7 wickets.

The game of the day was played between Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, where the South Indian side registered a 1-wicket win in a low-scoring, gobsmacking encounter. Rajasthan got bowled out for 133 runs batting first, but Rahul Chahar’s spell almost saw Tamil Nadu fall short. Eventually, their last pair held their nerve and registered a one-wicket victory.

Two games in the Plate division and one game in the Elite Group B between Odisha and Uttar Pradesh abandoned due to rain.
