Mumbai will take on Hyderabad in the first semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19 as they inch closer to end the drought of a limited-overs title. Mumbai have the best opportunity to win the tournament thanks to the availability of big names. This game could feature both Rohit Sharma (Mumbai) and Ambati Rayudu (Hyderabad) before they will join the Indian squad for the first two games of the five-match ODI series against the Windies.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, lost two of their first three matches but bounced back strongly to make it to the knockouts as the fifth team from the Elite Group A & B. Their bowling attack was strengthened with the inclusion of Mohammed Siraj who triggered a dramatic comeback against Andhra. Siraj dismissed the set pair of Hanuma Vihari and Ricky Bhui when Andhra needed 84 runs in 81 balls with eight wickets in hand.

Match Details:

The game between Mumbai and Hyderabad will be played on October 17th 2018 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The match starts at 9:00 AM IST (Local time).

Completed matches of Hyderabad in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018/19 – W, W, W, W, W, L, L, W

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed some big totals in the tournament. However, the two quarter-finals here recorded scores below 250. The Delhi-Haryana game was dominated by some brilliant bowling from Kulwant Khejroliya without which the runs kept flowing. The previous game between Jharkhand-Maharashtra was played on a track with green tinge making it helpful for the seamers. Given the overcast conditions, the team winning the toss will elect to bowl first. If the grass coverage is removed, this game could well witness yet another 350+ score in this tournament.

Squads:

Mumbai: Shreyas Iyer (C), Rohit Sharma, Jay Bista, Akhil Herwadkar, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dubey, Aditya Tare (wk), Dhawal Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, Royston Dias, Shubham Ranjane, Eknath Kerkar, Akash Parkar, Vijay Gohil, Tushar Deshpande, Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw.

Hyderabad: Ambati Rayudu (C), P Akshath Reddy, Tanmay Agarwal, Rohit Rayudu, K Sumanth (wk), B Sandeep, Mehdi Hasan, M Ravi Kiran, Mohammed Siraj, Saket Sai Ram, CV Milind, Akash Bhandari, T Ravi Teja, Tanay Tyagarajan, Md Mudassir Hussain, Ajay Dev Goud.

Probable XI:

Mumbai: Shreyas Iyer (C), Rohit Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad/Shubham Rajane, Shivam Dubey, Aditya Tare (wk), Dhawal Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, Tushar Deshpande.

Hyderabad: Ambati Rayudu (C), P Akshath Reddy, Tanmay Agarwal, Rohit Rayudu, K Sumanth (wk), B Sandeep, Mehdi Hasan, M Ravi Kiran, Mohammed Siraj, CV Milind, Akash Bhandari.

Power Picks:

Mohammed Siraj, CV Milind and B Sandeep are must have from Hyderabad team. Sandeep is also a spin option for his team and has the ability to take a wicket or two. Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Shams Mulani are the major picks from Mumbai given their recent form.

Best Playing XI:

Kolla Sumanth, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Ambati Rayudu, Suryakumar Yadav, B Sandeep, Shams Mulani, Tushar Deshpande, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mohammed Siraj, CV Milind.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Ambati Rayudu, Mohammed Siraj and Shams Mulani will be ideal choices for Captain and Vice-Captain. Rohit has a brilliant record at the Chinnaswamy while Siraj has the ability to take a bulk of wickets in One-Day cricket. Rayudu, on the other hand, is known for his timely knocks. The 33-year-old could hit a big one in the semi-final and seal his place in the Indian ODI XI against Windies.

Expert Advice:

Both Rohit and Rayudu might not play this game if they are asked to join the national team. It is better to keep an eye on their availability until the last minute. Mumbai will have a selection headache if Rohit is available for this game. With Rohit, Rahane and Prithvi in their ranks, Mumbai could force Rahane to the bat at No.3.

Hyderabad pacer Ravi Kiran looked uncomfortable in the last couple of overs in the game against Andhra. However, he could get fit thanks to a day off before the game against Mumbai. The Hyderabad top-order batsmen are quite risky to be included in the team as the current set of Mumbai pacers exploit the conditions that produce movement well.

Probable Winners:

Mumbai will take the field in this game as the favourites given the availability of big players in their side. However, a Hyderabad win cannot be ruled out as the team is known to make a comeback at crucial stages just like they made it to the knockout round and to the semi-finals.
