The biggest game of the day in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday was played between Baroda and Punjab and that turned out to be a ripper of a contest. Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Bengal registered wins in their respective Group C fixtures, making the group permutations even more interesting.
After losing the toss and getting into bat first, Baroda could put up just 222 runs on the board with a half-century from Vishnu Solanki and some late-blitz from veteran Yusuf Pathan. Some bits and pieces contributions from the Punjab middle-order saw them clinch the game by the skin of their teeth, with just one ball remaining.
Baba Aparajith’s all-round excellence saw Tamil Nadu register a comfortable win against Railways. Aparajith picked up four wickets with the ball as Railways were restricted to 200/9 in their 50 overs. He scored an unbeaten 111 and was supported well by Vijay Shankar, who chipped in with a crucial 72.
Manoj Tiwary scores a fifty; Bengal trump Tripura
Tanmay Mishra scored a half-century against a resolute bowling attack of Bengal, to help Tripura score 224 runs batting first before getting bowled out. Veteran Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary chipped in with a brilliant 85 and was supported well by Agniv Pan, as Bengal chased the total down in 47.2 overs.
Chetan Bist and Aditya Garhwal registered half-centuries for Rajasthan as they put up a moderate 239 runs batting first. The target was always going to be beyond Services’ reach and they could put up only 191 runs. Rajasthan won the game by 38 runs.
