Team India is currently playing the T20I series against the Windies at home and will be soon embarking on a long Australia tour. They are scheduled to play 3 T20Is, four Tests and 3 One-Day Internationals. More than anything, all the eyes will be on the Test series. Meanwhile, Vinod Kambli, the former Indian batsman is one of the many experts who predicts a historic series win in the longer format down under for the team.
Apart from Australia looking to save the one-day series against the Proteas, they face the biggest challenge when Virat Kohli’s men come to Australia, hunting their first ever test series win down under. Several cricketing experts are confident that this is India’s greatest chance to record their maiden series win in Australia since the Kangaroos are without the two of their best batsmen.
One of the many former players is Vinod Kambli, who played for India between 1991-2000 believes that the unavailability of Steve Smith and David Warner has made the visitors the front runners to win the Test series in Australia. Both the cricketers have been prohibited by the Australian Cricket Board from playing international or domestic cricket for their involvement in the ball tampering scandal in March 2018 and will remain banned till the same month next year.
Steve Smith – A piece of thorn which was in India’s way to glory
Undoubtedly, Steve Smith has been the biggest thorn in India’s way. He has played ten Tests against India, scoring 1429 runs at a whopping average of 84.06 with 192 as his highest score.
Vinod Kambli also bestowed praises on Virat Kohli, who turned 30 on November 5th and has been having records tumbling under his name. The former batsman said that he is hungry for runs and gives his 110 percent on the field.
“Our chances are bright. These two batsmen (Smith and Warner) are not there. So take full advantage. Kohli is hungry for runs. And the hunger to do well, that is what is good to see in him. The work ethics plus the way he is on the field, he is giving his 110 per cent. So the main thing which I like about his playing and batting is the hunger for runs, he is very hungry,” the former Indian cricketer said according to the Times of India.
