The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has added another feather to his cap as a skipper by scoring a century in the third ODI against New Zealand. He became the highest run-getter in the ODIs as a captain in a calendar year. He scored 113 in the ongoing match and went past the Australian legend Ricky Ponting in the process. Kohli now has 1460 runs to his name in 26 matches in 2017 at an amazing average of 76.84 with as many as six centuries. He also went past the likes of Misbah Ul Haq, Angelo Mathews and Mohammad Azharuddin.
Virat Kohli has raised his game a notch higher since taking over the reins of the team in the limited overs format from MS Dhoni earlier this year. He has gone past the captains who have made their respective countries proud when they were at the helm. Ponting had accumulated 1424 in a calendar year in 24 innings at an even better average of 79.11. Kohli has three more One-Day Internationals to play this year against Sri Lanka and he has a great chance to score more runs provided he plays in the series.
New Zealand blaze off to a quick start
In reply to India’s mammoth total of 337, the Kiwis started off excellently as Colin Munro scored 19 runs in the very first over. Though Bumrah draw first blood by sending Martin Guptill back into the hut. However, New Zealand bat deep and each one of them has to contribute in this tall chase. India, on the other hand, would look to pick wickets by asserting pressure on the opposition in the middle overs. So far they have scored 61 runs for the loss of one wicket after 8 overs and needs to continue batting same way till the end. Kane Williamson and Munro have come together now and are consolidating a good start.
