Virat Kohli ended his break on social media and made a comeback on Twitter after a notable absence. The Indian skipper broke the shackles to wish Indian off-spinner and teammate Harbhajan Singh on his birthday. Kohli had kept himself away from social media after his last post which was on June 14th. He had posted a photo with his teammates while the men in blue were heading towards Birmingham from London.

The popularity of Virat Kohli:

Kohli is a regular on social networking sites such as Twitter and Instagram, announced that he will part ways from social media on the eve of the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. Kohli has grown to be a sensation in the country with a staggering fan base. The cricketer is the most followed Indian celebrity on Facebook, leaving the likes of Bollywood superstars Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra behind.

He also has a whopping 16.2 million followers on Twitter whereas his Instagram account has 14.4 million. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only Indian who has more likes on his Facebook page than the Indian skipper.

On the eve of the big final, Kohli had pointed out that social media can distract you from the game and he wishes to stay out of it for the time being. “The biggest thing is to stay off social media,” said Kohli at The Oval.

“If you’re too distracted listening to too many suggestions or players or criticism, then you can’t focus on what you need to think as a sportsman first to be able to lead the team and then help the others in the team as well. The more relaxed you stay in these situations it’s a good thing, because it helps you take better decisions when you are composed and calm mentally.”
