Virat Kohli has a fan in Pakistan womens cricket team: Bismah Maroof, Pakistan women cricket team’s emerging star says she idolises and models her batting on Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Michael Clarke. The 24 years old left-hander recently dominated the series versus Bangladesh with her batting performances and occasional leg breaks.

Maroof while speaking in an interview with Dawn said although that her batting style is natural but she tries to emulate right handers.

“I am a huge fan of Michael Clarke and watching and learning from players like Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli helps me improve my shot selection and construct my innings.”

Maroof scored 109 runs in the 2 T20I’s and 133 runs in the 2 ODI’s played against visitors Bangladesh.

Maroof was very optimist about women cricket’s future and said that it has developed to a great extent since she made her debut as a 15-year-old against India women. She believes that Pakistan Cricket Board needs to provide enough support to improve the quality of women cricket in Pakistan.

“We think that that a there should be a separate national academy for female cricketers and more grounds should be built around the country particularly for women which would help the cricketing culture grow amongst women. As of now we do feel left behind.”

“To encourage women to engage in the cricketing activity and keeping them motivated it’s necessary for the authorities to make the profession more lucrative. Women deserve increment in pay with time as much as male cricketers,” she told.

Maroof was also confident that she will continue performing in the same way when they tour West Indies in November to play ODI’s.

She said, “We will go to West Indies with full preparations as we just got to play competitive cricket against Bangladesh and attended a training camp before that. As far as my personal performances are concerned, I believe in accepting challenges and I will try to carry on my form in West Indies too.”
